Phi Phi Islands
With its beautiful beaches and bays, Phi Phi is one of the most visited islands. They became famous when featured in the film “The Beach.” Among snorkelers, they are popular for their coral reefs. Upon approach to the islands, you will see Phi Phi’s sheer cliffs towering overhead. The two main islands are Ko Phi Phi Don and the smaller island of Ko Phi Phi Leh. The larger island Ko Phi Phi Don is the most developed with seafood restaurants and coffee shops. If you are a diver, Phi Phi has a few companies offering tours to the Simlan Islands. Lastly if the Simlan’s don’t interest you, there are other islands of Phuket Thailand nearby.
The Similan Islands National Park is a group of nine islands 84 kilometers from Phucket’s Patong beach. The nine islands include: Ko Bon, Ko Bayu, Ko Similan, Ko Payu, Ko Miang, Ko Payan, Ko Payang, and Ko Huyong. When visiting, there is a park fee that is usually included in the speedboat fare. This can be a tiring journey; don’t forget the sun screen, sun glasses and motion sickness pills. Also, this group is a favorite destination among yachts and tour boats. Lastly, the National Geographic list this group among the top dive-sites in the world.
Coral Island or Koh Hae is known for the coral reefs and snorkeling there. The island is part of a marine preserve, but there are restaurants, accommodations and water-sports available too. Coral island is a beautiful destination located three kilometers off the southeastern coast of Phuket. There are two popular beaches Long Beach and Banana Beach; because of Coral Island close proximity to Phuket Island, it can get crowed on Long Beach. If you want more privacy, take a ten minute walk to Banana beach.
Islands of Phuket Thailand (Racha)
Known for its clear waters and white sand beaches, the Racha Islands are popular destinations among the islands of Phuket Thailand. located 12 kilometers south of Phuket, the two main islands are Racha Noi and Racha Yai. Of the two Racha Noi is the smaller and least developed. You wont find services or accommodation there, but you will find some great diving sites. In fact, one great site is on the northern tip of Racha Noi, which offers some wonderful underwater scenery. On the larger island of Racha Yai, there are bungalows and resorts available. To get around, there is a network of dirt paths that link all the beaches and resorts. When walking the paths, you will enjoy the picturesque views of coconut groves.
